Concept — Three Operations (Ingest / Query / Lint)

The LLM Wiki runs on three operations: ingesting new sources, querying and synthesizing, and health-checking.

1. Ingest

You drop a new source into the raw collection and tell the LLM to process it. Typical flow:

  1. The LLM reads the source and discusses key points with you.
  2. Writes a summary page in the wiki.
  3. Updates index.
  4. Updates related entity and concept pages across the wiki.
  5. Appends an entry to log.

A single source can touch 10–15 pages. It is recommended to go one source at a time and stay engaged (read summaries, check updates, steer what the LLM emphasizes); batching with less supervision is also possible. The flow evolves with your style and gets written into the schema.

This wiki’s trigger phrase: when Joe writes “add to wiki”, it triggers ingest. See AGENTS.

2. Query

You ask the wiki a question. The LLM searches relevant pages, reads them, synthesizes an answer with citations. The answer form varies by question: markdown page, comparison table, Marp slides, matplotlib chart, canvas.

Key insight: a good answer can be saved back into the wiki as a new page. The comparisons, analyses, and discovered links you seek are valuable and should not vanish into the chat history. This way your inquiry compounds in the knowledge base just like ingesting sources.

3. Lint

Periodically ask the LLM to health-check the wiki, looking for:

  • Inter-page contradictions
  • Stale claims overturned by new sources
  • Orphan pages with no inbound links
  • Important concepts mentioned but lacking a dedicated page
  • Missing cross-references
  • Information gaps that could be filled via web search

The LLM is also good at suggesting next questions to explore and sources to find, keeping the wiki healthy as it grows.

Blind-spot reminder: lint only checks notes against notes. If the notes describe a system that changes on its own (such as code), claims about the code should carry file and line numbers, and be flagged as stale when the code changes. See 2026-karpathy-llm-wiki for further discussion.
